Overview
Association for Rural Development (ARD) is a registered charitable organisation based in Madurai district of Tamil Nadu in India.
ARD is founded in the year 1985 by a group of socially committed youth with the vision of empowering the poor and the marginalised community mainly the women and children. ARD was plunged into action on seeing the injustice done to humanity particularly to female children and women and begun to work vigorously for the development and empowerment of needy, poor and poverty stricken people. ARD presently involved in development initiatives such as women empowerment through promotion of microfinance Self Help Groups and skill training leading to employment; Child development through home for vulnerable children, educational assistance, counselling, etc; Agriculture and watershed development; health care & social security services for poor and environment protection. ARD presently works with more than 25 lakhs families in rural areas and urban slums in three districts- Madurai, Theni and Ramnad in Tamil Nadu district of South India.
